Winter Themed Artwork!

Hi! I’m back again. So in my past couple of blogs I’ve been talking about a cool website called replit. Where you can create some pretty cool things. Our most recent assignment was a project where we had to create something winter related. I thought about what my family loves to do on christmas and that is decorating a christmas tree. So step by step I created a christmas tree. But, a christmas tree is no christmas tree with out some decorations! So I added little ornaments on to the tree that complemented the tree greatly! I thought the project could use something else. So I made it interactive! You would put your name and you would be able to talk to a robot who would ask you questions and you can answer them. And Along the way you make the beautiful christmas tree together.

Turtle Maze Challenge

Hi! You may remember me talking about a website called repl.it. This time using repl.it, we found a code that made a very hard maze. Our challenge was to get our little character through the maze. I know it sounds pretty easy, because all you have to do is, go forward 100 pixels or turn right 90 degrees. But, as great as that would be it’s unfortunately not that easy. What makes it SUPER HARD. Is that each time you run your code, the maze is different every time! Not so easy anymore… huh? At first, I didn’t know that it was going to be random each time. So I did like forward 100 pixels and used codes like that. But, when I realized that it was different each time, I knew it was going to be A LOT harder than I thought. I struggled a lot, and guess what (even today I STILL haven’t finished it yet). But, it was still very cool and fun. In order for it to follow where the gaps were each time I ran the code, I had to go back into the code to see how the actual maze was made. I had to use that code and use my awesome math skills to make it so my character would also be different each time. But, even then I still didn’t make it past the 1st line. In the end I learned something, that its ok to fail, and in your failure you learn.

Turtle Race Project

Hi! I’m back! Recently I’ve been talking about a cool website called turtle art. But today I’m shaking things up a little. Today we’re not talking about turtle art, we are talking about a website called Repl.lit. I’m not sure how to explain what it is but, I think the easiest way to explain it in my understanding is that you can use code to do things but using code from different websites (such as Python or in this case turtle art)? I’m not sure if that’s correct or not but that’s how I understand it. Anyway, In class we’ve been working on a racing project on Repl.it. We had to use code and make 2 different characters/turtles and we had to code them so that they would race each other. It was cool because you could code the turtles so it’s random how far they go in each round. So you never know who’s going to win. Here is a screenshot of my race that I made.

Here is a picture of the actual race
and here is a picture of the code that I used to create the race

Turtle Art Inspiration Project

Hi! In my recent blogs, I’ve been talking a lot about turtle art. If you don’t know what turtle art is, it’s a website where you use block code to navigate a turtle that draws for you. For example. If you wanted to draw a smiley face, you would have to code it to go to different places on the grid and make a smiley face. Recently I’ve been working on an Inspiration Project on turtle art. We looked at a website filled with cool things to make on turtle art. We had to pick one we liked and make something like it. I chose a stick figure. But instead of making just a stick figure, I was going to attempt to draw a car. But I ran into lots of difficulties very quickly. I had a very hard time trying to find the correct angles I needed to make a car. Eventually, I pretty much just gave up. I tried to think of something else I could do with the stick figure. I kept thinking and thinking and I thought, maybe I could make a snowflake using the stick figures. I had to fix a lot of the code to center the stick man and make a snowflake. I centered it and then I used the very handy repeat block and put the entire code inside it (with a few adjustments). I crossed my fingers and hit play. It took a while to load but I had finally made a snowflake. (remember that every snowflake is unique and each has its own different shape)

Here is a picture of my snowflake:

Turtle Art Name Project

Hi! If you remember from some of my recent blogs, I talk about a website called Turtle Art. Turtle Art is a website where you use block code to navigate a turtle that uses its butt to trace a line wherever you tell the turtle to go. In my last blog on turtle art, I created a very cool shape on turtle art. Recently I’ve been working on a project where I navigate my turtle to trace my name on the screen. It took a while for me to figure out different ways to use codes to make it easier, and after many tries… I made an “A”! Then I got the flow and I knew that after the “A” things would go pretty smoothly from there. Eventually, I got an “A” all the way until I got an “R”.

Turtle Art Shape

There is a cool website called turtle art, and on that website, you use block code to make cool shapes with a turtle. Using Turtle art I made this awesome shape using a string of block code. I learned that by changing the angle that the turtle goes in to a decimal you can create many more shapes, you can draw almost anything you can think of, but it will take some time. I also learned that every time you repeat a string of code you can change the color so you can make a rainbow if you wanted to!

Here is a string of block code I made to create this…

Here is an awesome shape I made using the code I display above.

About Me

Hi! My name is Asher I’m 12 years old in the 7th grade at Quest Academy. I have been attending Quest Academy since I was in Pre-School, it has such a great learning environment and a very safe space. I also love Soccer! I have been playing soccer since I was 4 and I love playing, I usually play defense or somewhere in the center. I play for the FCX South Barrington Travel team and I have been for a long time. I love video games, the main games I play are Fornite, Fall guys, and sometimes I play Roblox with my younger sister. I mostly play Fortnite because I love the “last man standing” part of the game. I play Fall Guys with my older siblings and their friends, we communicate using this website called “Discord”, it is a very useful communication website that I use a lot. I also love to draw/trace from cool images I find on the internet, I sometimes draw these very complicated pictures I find and take a picture, I usually send those pictures to my family members. Also, I like to send them to my sister who is AMAZING at drawing she draws/animates stuff for video games, comics, books, etc. I LOVE watching movies, my favorites are Forest Gump, Harry Potter, A Monster Calls, and Star Wars. When Star Wars; The Rise Of Skywalker came out my family and I woke up really early to go see it when it came out. But my ALL TIME favorite movie is Indiana Jones (I like them all).
